Syracuse radio station switches to all Christmas music 20 days before Thanksgiving

It’s time to deck the halls and jingle some bells: The holiday season has officially begun.
Syracuse radio station Y94FM (WYYY-FM) switched to all Christmas music on Friday evening, changing its tune to “Syracuse’s Christmas Music Station.” It’s the third year in a row that Y94FM launched its seasonal format on the second Friday in November, but it’s a full 20 days before Thanksgiving because this year’s turkey holiday falls on the latest possible date, Nov. 28 (the fourth Thursday in November).
“Christmas music is back and Y94 has holiday music, all day long,” the radio station’s official Facebook page said, along with a photo of Santa Claus proclaiming “I proudly listen to Christmas music in November.”
The iHeartMedia-owned adult contemporary station typically plays Hot AC (adult contemporary) songs from the ‘80s to today, but updated its playlist to festive classics like “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Silent Night,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman” and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
Another Syracuse radio station, Lights on the Lake sponsor Classic Hits Sunny 102 (102.1 WZUN-FM), is expected to flip to “Santa 102″ soon. Lights on the Lake runs from Nov. 18 through Jan. 12 at Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool.
More signs of the holiday season are fast approaching: Santa Claus arrives at Destiny USA on Friday, Nov. 15, and the City of Syracuse will hold its Clinton Square tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 29, (the day after Thanksgiving).
